In June 2012, in the Netherlands, a law entered with respect to the use of cookies by websites. This legislation is based on a European e-privacy directive.

The law is that visitors explicitly asking for permission when a web site cookies in the browser wants to save. On this page we give a description of a widget that site owners can use.

CIVIC Cookie Control is a free widget that website owners can use to allow visitors to ask your permission to place cookies. The widget is displayed in the upper left or right corner at the bottom of the website.

Before you the code to copy to your own site you need a number of settings, such as the color of the widget, the location and the text. You can select or visitors explicit permission to place cookies (opt-in) or implied consent if they have cookies disable (opt-out).

You can use the widget on any website by the code. There are also special modules are available to the widget is easy to add to the following content management systems: WordPress, Drupal, Magento, Typo3, Joomla! and Zen Cart.

CIVIC Cookie Control has the following features:

  • widget for the questions of consent to setting cookies,
  • visitors authorization through opt-in or opt-out,
  • the shape of the icon (triangle or diamond shape),
  • the countries to set where the widget will be displayed,
  • number of seconds that the popup shown by default must be,
  • the text of the widget change,
  • choose from a widget with dark or light colors.
