Hanzi Recognizer is a free application to perfect and underpin your knowledge of the Chinese language and its writing. It has a dictionary from Chinese to English, and an open source tool to write freehand and practice Chinese writing.
Hanzi Recognizer is divided into characters, strokes and forms. The characters are formed by strokes, and a stroke is considered to be what is written from when the pencil is placed on the paper until it is lifted. The program analyzes our strokes, compares with its database of characters, and finds the one that most resembles it. It will always show the five biggest matches.
In other words, we write a certain Chinese character, and Hanzi Recognizer automatically shows us the five characters that most closely resemble what we have drawn on the screen. When done in Java, the program requires having previously installed the Java Runtime Environment.
