Many times in our reports we need to make a design that shows a hierarchical tree structure (or phylogeny, if we use its technical name) to display our data. To make this type of graphics, which are usually complex, nothing better than using a specific program designed to do that task and nothing else. As for example, TreeView X (which translated into English means Tree View).
TreeView X is a free and open source program used to build and display on-screen graphics and tree structures. TreeView X is able to read specific formats of tree structures such as NEXUS or NEWICK. These formats are those that use as output some of the most popular applications such as PAUP, CluctalX or Tree-Puzzle.
The TreeView X options are very complete. We can define the font we are going to use at the ends of the tree (the sheets, where we write the name of each record), specify its shape, order it, or choose how we want it to look on the screen. If you work with very large data structures you should not worry either: the program includes a zoom option (zoom in and out) so that the size of the views is not a problem. The TreeView X program is completely free, although when you download it you must register your copy.
