Detenc is an application used to determine the encoding of a specific text file, using a visual inspection process. If you need to know the encoding of a certain text file, but you don't know any way to find out, your solution is this little program. Detenc allows us to travel visually through several encodings, and looking at the rendering of each one on the screen, to determine when we have found the exact encoding for our file.
The visual inspection process consists of the following: Select a file, or drag it to the program interface, and choose an encoding that you think may be correct for the file. Then you can visually verify if that encoding you have chosen is rendered correctly, and if not, you will have to try others until you find the one that matches.
To choose the different encodings, you can mark them one by one, or more comfortably use the central wheel of your mouse if it exists.
