f.lux is a small program for Windows, Mac, Linux and Android that makes the colors of your screen less bright and blue in the evening. Because of the blue light of all screens (PC, laptop, tablet, telephone and TV) we sleep less well. f.lux counteracts this by dimming the colors and making it more yellow. Better for your night's sleep.
The blue light from all the screens in our lives makes us sleep less well.And sleeping is very important for both your physical and mental health(read here a very insightful - Dutch-language - article about professor Matthew Walker's sleep study and why you live shorter if you sleep shorter). That's why it's better not to stare at screens until one or two hours before bedtime. The production of melatonin is in fact disturbed by the blue light, which makes it harder for you to fall asleep later and to sleep less well (less REM sleep).
f.lux can help by making the light that your devices emit less blue in the evening. Not looking at screens before you go to sleep is of course better, but f.lux can make it easier for you to fall asleep and sleep better (although the tablet or telephone in bed always stays bad for your night's sleep).
If you install f.lux on your Windows or Linux PC, Mac or Android device, you must first specify your location because otherwise f.lux does not know your time zone and sunrise and sunset on which it must adjust the light intensity. And also specify the time that you wake up (my earliest wake time). Then f.lux will dim the light on your devices in the evening and make it more yellow.
