MusicBrainz Picard is a free app that lets you music files automatic tagging on the basis of an online music database. The program is open source and is suitable for all popular operating systems.
By a folder containing music files to select the program automatically for you, looking for tracks, the name of the artist and the album name. After the program the scan has completed, the old metadata and the new metadata shown next to each other. When you're satisfied with the new metadata (or tags) then you can save it by clicking on the button, and these are now displayed when playing in for example iTunes or another audio player.
