Images of planets and sterrenstelstels are nowadays not only more from a planetarium to view. Google has developed Google Sky developed but Microsoft has a very advanced alternative called WorldWide Telescope. The program offers the possibility to take images of stars and planets to view and navigate through the space.
UPDATE: In July 2015, Microsoft has this project been transferred to the .JUST Foundation. It is now available as open source program under the MIT license.
WorldWide Telescope is an application that makes it possible to turn your computer a virtual telescope . The program makes use of telescoopbeelden that are made from space and from earth. You can move in a three dimensional space. Routes along the planets that you find interesting you can save and share with others.
WorldWide Telescope is available as a desktop application for Windows but you can also get online through your web browser to use. To the online application, you must first free program Silverlight install.
