Pencil is an animation and drawing program for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. With the free software you can create traditional hand-drawn 2D images, the program supports both bitmap - like vector drawing.
A pencilbestand is built up from layers. There are four different types of layers: bitmap image, vector image, sound, and camera. These layers are organized in the timeline to the bottom of the screen.
A project can be saved in XML format along with a folder that all the bitmap data. Moving animations can be exported as a series of PNG images, Flash movie or as a QuickTime movie (this feature is only available for Mac OS X).
