The traditional method of virus detection is based on scanning for known viruses. To new viruses that are not yet committed to be able to make spores virus scanners use heuristic detection technology.
This heuristic virus scanners search for different program instructions, which differ from normal programs. So it is possible to also new, not yet widely known viruses to detect.
