LuLu is a free open source firewallfor macOS only. LuLu is a personal firewall that controls which applications want to make outbound connections on your Mac. You can then give the app access to the internet or block it. Simple but effective.
The best known firewall for Mac is without a doubt Little Snitch. However, you have to pay for this program (the free version stops every three hours). LuLu from Objective-See is a great free alternative: a simple personal firewall that asks whether you give permission for every application that wants access to the internet.
After installing LuLu (read detailed instructions below at Installation, the tab next to Downloads)you must allow the kernel extension< / strong>otherwise the firewall will not work. You will receive a notification to open the System Preferences. Then clickAllowafter the text thatLoading the system software from the developer 'Objective-See LLC' has been blocked(see image):

After this you need to restart your Mac and then you can set up LuLu.
When setting up LuLu we would automatically allow Apple and system software, but not already installed third-party applications (remove the check mark, see image).

You will receive notifications if they want access to the internet. You can block (block) or allow (Allow) the apps.
Click on 'Allow' if Firefox wants to access the internet
Conveniently, in the notification window (as above) you can also click on the VirusTotal icon, after which the application that wants internet access is scanned by dozens of virus scanners.
LuLu is in the system bar at the top of your Mac. Furthermore, you don't have to set anything anymore. So you should only allow or block applications if you receive notifications. This way you keep control over applications that want to connect to the internet.
LuLu is a simple but effective personal firewall thatmonitors outgoing applications. Incoming connections are handled by the built-in firewall in macOS. You still have to enable the built-in firewall in macOS (read here how to enable it). LuLu offers a good protection of your internet traffic in cooperation with the Mac firewall.
